My new single, Shadow War: Singularity, arrives today and I’m so excited to finally share it with you.
This version of the song was a collaboration with Aaron Berg (Mountainwalker) and it feels more like a dance, which is appropriate to the song. I drew a lot from Frankenstein and the golems of Jewish mythology. I think I've often felt a bit like a creature, an odd mix of parts that don't quite fit, a clumsy mess who is just trying to survive in a world I wasn't made for. Maybe I want to project a tough exterior, if only to be able to keep my heart safe.
There are forces in the world that want to divide us, and to point us at each other as enemies. But the thing we so often miss is that when we hurt others we are also hurting ourselves. Sometimes we may not feel like we have a choice, but we lose a little bit of our humanity when we forget how to see the humanity in others.
There is a line in the song, "no weapon more terrifying than love." Love is powerful, and disruptive, and threatening to those who profit from division.
In this song, I confront the enemy in myself and come back to the truth that we share the same warm, beating human hearts.
